What is an NCD?
A Non-Convertible Debenture (NCD) is a fixed-income debt instrument issued by Indian companies that cannot be converted into equity. NCDs typically offer higher coupon rates than bank FDs because they carry corporate credit risk rather than sovereign or bank-backed guarantee.
Public NCD issues are open to retail investors via the exchange platforms (BSE Direct, NSE GoBID). Coupon options usually include monthly, annual, and cumulative payouts across tenures of 2-10 years. Always check the credit rating (AAA being the strongest) and the secured / unsecured nature of the NCD before investing.
